Operating in the bustling Auckland property market is a challenge! Over the last nine years Nick has built his mortgage brokerage business in a changing landscape. He has taken Loan Market Howick from a one-man band to a small company employing four full-time staff. But what’s most impressive is his passion for helping first home buyers into the Auckland property market – no mean feat.
With a background in accounting and property investing, Nick has a few tricks up his sleeve. His wealth of experience with anything related to numbers and property plus his relationships with a wide range of banks, means that he knows which banks will suit which clients; and this is the magic of mortgage broking. It is never a one size fits all approach.
Nick puts his clients first. He educates first home buyers on how to consolidate and reduce debt, change spending habits, save more and utilise guarantors. He helps those less experienced in property ownership in building portfolios and structuring debt and mortgages to their best advantage. This is the stuff the banks won’t tell you!
Loan Market and The Accounting Hub are a good match.
Nick met Andrew at a BNI meeting when they were both at the start-up stage of their respective businesses. As solo operators, they found that they clicked, and since then their businesses have grown alongside one another.
Like The Accounting Hub story, Nick’s business evolution was a gradual process. Early on he employed a part time assistant and now, nine years later, the business boasts four full time staff consisting of a customer services manager, two lending managers, an insurance advisor plus Nick. Finding the right balance of staff and work has been the biggest challenge but they are all set and ready for what comes next.
The financial side of the mortgage brokering business model is fairly simple, there are no invoices generated, payments are automatic, and no credit control needed. The good news is, they don’t need a complicated accounting package. So again, there’s a good match – between The Accounting Hub and what Nick’s business requires.
The Accounting Hub do a good job. They deliver a cost effective product that we appreciate. They don’t try to sell us a structure that doesn’t suit and they always try and keep it simple.
Nick also appreciates Andrew’s approach to accounting.
Andrew’s not old school. He’s an early adopter and Xero makes the world of difference. I like that it gives clear, visual data. I use the reporting a lot. I can easily compare March for the last five years.
The compatibility of our businesses has seen a partnership form that is stronger than a ‘client’ and ‘advisor’ relationship. We love watching Nick’s business thrive, his wins are our wins and it is nice to be part of other’s success.
Thanks Nick and the team from Loan Market for having us along on your journey. We’ve enjoyed the trip so far, long may it continue.
